Glass tube, mirrors and lenses
What are the maintenance costs of a CO2 laser machine? A frequently asked question that 3DInTheBox is happy to explain.
CO2 laser machines have various parts that need to be maintained and replaced.
The most common and most important to consider are:
- Laser source (glass tube)
- Mirrors and lenses
- Moving parts
Laser source – Glass tubes
When considering maintenance costs of a CO2 laser machine, the glass tube should certainly be considered. There are many wild stories going around about glass tubes, with lifespan claims ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 hours. All have a grain of truth, but usually the conditions under which these claims apply are not stated. Suppliers of the glass tubes test the tubes with a continuous load of 80% of the maximum power and with an ideal water cooling that always has a 20-25˚C.
Unfortunately, in practice the situation will be different; more or less power and much more often on and off, for example engraving. It is therefore wiser to calculate with a shorter life expectancy when determining the maintenance costs of the laser machine.
3DInTheBox works exclusively with high-quality laser tube brands such as RECI and YONGLI. Inquire about the current stock.
Laser lenses and laser mirrors
Mirrors and lenses will have to be cleaned regularly and they contribute to the maintenance costs of a CO2 laser machine. Unfortunately, stains and damage will always occur over time, so that you have to replace the mirror or lens. You will often see this initially in a reduced laser power. Lenses and mirrors in optimal condition always ensure that as much as possible of the laser beam (and power) actually arrives at the workpiece and increases reproducibility during cutting.

Moving parts – guides and shafts
The moving parts always get dirty over time. Fat “acidified” by the absorption of the vapors that are released. Some materials deposit directly on the “cold” machine parts. This should therefore be cleaned regularly. MetaQuip has put together a cleaning set for moving parts for this, in consultation with a specialist . In this way the moving parts remain clean and function optimally.
Rough estimate of maintenance costs of a CO2 laser machine
In short, a new laser tube on time, occasionally replacing a mirror and/or lens and the materials to clean the machine. All these things cost money. If you take as a rule that you set aside € 2 per hour that you work with the machine, then you overcome all these costs over time and you always have the means to keep your machine in tip-top shape.
What maintenance services does 3DInTheBox provide?
When purchasing your MetaQuip laser machine, you can also conclude a service contract or maintenance contract.
With a maintenance contract, a 3DInTheBox service technician visits you once a year to check and clean your machine so that it remains in top shape even after a longer period of time. In a service contract you can agree a specific response time with 3DInTheBox, so that you can be sure that your machine will be operational again quickly.
